Halo-Halo!!

It has nearly been 6 months since I have gone down to Portland to visit my family and I have started to go through some massive Filipino food withdrawals!  I mean, lets be honest here…I still think it is strange not to eat rice with every single meal.  Asian people problems I guess? :)

So when most people find out that I am 1/2 Filipino I get asked the following 2 questions:

Q. Have you ever tried Balut?

A. NO!!!

Q. Do you eat Lumpia all the time?

B. Unfortunately, no.   But this is mainly due to the small complication of me being a vegetarian.  Otherwise I would be ALL OVER the Lumpia bandwagon!

For those of you who don’t know what Lumpia is…it’s essentially a Filipino egg roll.  And for those of you who don’t know what Balut is…then look it up cause I ain’t gonna describe it on here.

But what I have actually been craving is Halo-Halo!

halo-halo

Halo-Halo is a Filipino desert that consists of shaved ice, with sweetened condensed milk, a couple scoops of ice cream (generally ube flavor) and then is further topped with flan, shredded coconut, palm fruit, jack fruit, jellies, and bananas foster.  And then you are essentially suppose to just mix it all together and eat.  Halo-Halo literally translates to “mix-mix.”

Guess it’s time to head down to Jollibee to get my Halo-Halo on! Nom Nom!

Cheers!
